Easy DIY Moss Wreath

Easy to follow instructions and tutorial on how to make a faux DIY moss wreath. This easy DIY moss wreath is the perfect DIY Spring craft idea for your Spring and Summer front porch decor.

Well, it’s official.

Spring has Sprung! And ‘No, Mother Nature, there are no take-backs!’

When the seasons begin to change, the first area of my home that I want to ‘seasonalize’ is my front porch. Not only is it one of my favorite features of our home, but it’s the first area that greets visitors and that we see when we pull in the driveway.

I’ll be popping in on Friday to show you my full Spring front porch decor, but today I’m tackling my wreath.

And I’m pretty tickled with the DIY Moss Wreath I made. The lovely green of moss really sings of spring and all the new growth that is coming. I decided to channel the whole ‘moss thing’ for my front porch this year and I love the simplicity of it. The moss is vibrant enough to stand on its own but is also neutral enough that it should play well with other colors as the seasons change.

Making this faux moss wreath was a REALLY easy and inexpensive project and makes a wonderful spring craft idea to spruce up your spring porch decor.

What You Need to Make a DIY Moss Wreath:

  • 3 Moss Rolls (I found mine at Michaels…and it was on sale at the time)
  • 1 Wooden Frame(I found mine at Michaels, in the woodworking section…it does not have a piece of glass…it is just the wood frame)DIY Moss Wreath Materials: Faux moss and wooden frame
  • Faux Fern (found at Michaels.  It was in a little pot and I just pulled it out of the pot)
  • E6000 glue
  • Ribbon

How to Make a DIY Moss Wreath:

  • I wanted my faux moss wreath to have ‘mitered’ corners, so I laid it out on the frame and cut the moss at an angle at each corner.

  • By lining the next piece up against the piece I just cut, I was able to have fairly accurate cuts. But this faux moss is a little flexible, so if your lines aren’t exactly perfect you can pull it a bit.

  • Plus, you can always go back in after it’s all glued down and fill in any gaps with some of your leftover moss.
  • Once the front was glued on, I turned it over and glued the edges of the moss to the back of the frame as well.DIY Moss Wreath: How to attach faux moss to back of wooden frame
  • Twist ties helped hold everything in place while the glue dried.DIY Moss Wreath: Using twist ties to secure moss to frame while glue dries
  • I then just filled any of the gaps between the seams with the leftover moss and tucked the little fern into one of the corners with a dab of glue.
  • I also glued some white ribbon onto the back to make it look more finished.

Once again, this was a very easy project. If you don’t want a square wreath (is that an oxymoron?), you could find a round frame or even a wooden initial!
