Whimsical Halloween Decorations

I wasn’t going to do it this year…really.  I had no intention to decorate for Halloween. My kids are well past all the Halloween hoo-haa and my house was already set for the entire fall season. I was feeling good that I would get a full 3 months from my fall decor until I will decorate for Christmas. But, as is often the case, one thing led to another and …BAM…I have Halloween decorations up!

I was very content to bring out my Pet Menagerie Pictures and have them be the sole ‘Halloween decorations’. But, once I opened my Halloween box to retrieve them, some more of my other Halloween favs started catching my eyes and I just couldn’t resist.

Once I succumbed to my favorite witch, the one with the whimsical smile and eyes that I swear follow me around, I knew I would be decorating for Halloween…if just a little bit…this year.

I decided to confine the majority of my decorations to the dark green hutch I have in my kitchen since we spend so much time in there.  I knew I’d get the biggest bang for my Halloween decorating buck. And since I knew I’d be voted BEST.MOM/WIFE.EVERRRRR…I decided to splurge on some candy. We rarely have candy lying around the house, so this mini Candy Bar would be a real treat for my boys. While I do have a sweet tooth, I can resist candy corn and Milky Ways all day long and never be tempted. But those Reese’s cups? Yeah, they are a different story.

I used my 1″ circle hole punch, some card stock and string to whip together this quick garland.

And on a day when my to-do list was growing with no end in sight, I felt compelled to fashion a little party hat for my one-eyed raven.

So, will you decorate for Halloween this year? Do you have your favorite Halloween decorations already out?

  1. L ynn that one eyed raven is a hoot. I don’t decorate for Halloween because unfortunately for us we don’t celebrate in Greece. But I love decorating when I’m in the States. Love your cute decorations and the little tags which say candy and more candy. And that little witch can frighten just about anyone. Happy Halloween my friend.

    1. Happy ‘un’ Halloween to you to Mary. I think Halloween is pretty much a US holiday…right? In any event, it is fun to decorate and get in the ‘spirit’ of the holidays. And think my boys’ favorite party is the ‘more candy’ tag.

Thanks for swinging by my friend and wishing you a lovely day.

      Hugs, Lynn

  2. Lynn, I love your decorated Halloween Hutch! I really like having a designated area for holidays like Halloween in my kitchen, same reason here, we do spend a lot of time in there and the girls have breakfast and really love how I change out stuff. Your hutch is perfect, that witch is so fun, her face actually really looks like more of a good witch with a bit of a twist… And of course those branches, they call my name! Love it all! I’d hang out there all day and eat all the candy 🙂

    1. Thanks my friend and I do love my witch. She’s actually very sweet. Of course I made sure that most of the candy is stuff I can walk by all day and not be tempted with.
      Thanks for swinging by.

    1. Thanks Liz…and shockingly the candy bar is just about empty…including those darned reeses cups. When I replenish I’ll be skipping the reeses this time. We’re heading back up to your part of the state again this weekend…Gonna sit in the rain and watch the UNC-Tech game…yeah…whatever. I’ll just say that a husband who loves college football was involved in this crazy plan.

Have a great weekend and stay dry.

    1. Hi Katie…like I said, I was so close to foregoing decorating, but I’m glad I did. Just enough…though one week in and the ‘candy bar’ needs to be replenished. But this time there will be no reeses cups as I have eaten way to many of those tummy yummies!
Thanks for visiting and wishing a you a safe and dry weekend.

  3. I’m in the same boat you’re in! My son is 21 and in college and I have no real reason to decorate, but I can’t help it! I like the décor, it looks wonderful!

    1. Hi Mindy, Isn’t it true…we end up decorating for our kids. But I am so glad I did that little hutch, it’s making me smile. Thanks for visiting today and hope you’ll stay dry this weekend. It’s going to be a wet one.

      Hugs, Lynn
