Thank you! My family always overdoes desserts, but this was the Hit on 12/25. I followed the recipe exactly, with two exceptions:
I only used one pear, since it filled a cup (maybe my pieces were too big?)
I added cardamom to the icing, as it’s one of my family’s fave spices.
This was really good–esp. with the (unsweetened) whipped cream we served it with.

Thanks for sharing this recipe, I’m definitely going to give it a go. I’m in Ireland where we actually have golden syrup so what would be the measurement if using golden syrup? I feel your pain re a COVID Christmas but hopefully you’ll be able to still have a nice time with your family.
