  5. Monday Musings, January 28

Happy Monday my friends! I trust the weekend nourished your mind, body, and soul.

We went to see the movie ‘Serenity' on Saturday night…not sure my mind or my soul were nourished. We walked out saying “hmmm…?” It's received some pretty bad reviews, which we didn't read until we had already purchased tickets…bottom line, it worked with our time schedule.

We are 👌 this close to having all the post-hurricane repairs done! Now…time to sell the house. As much as I love this house, it's just too big for us now that our fledglings have left the nest.  Tips for selling a home quick? Send them my way.

I wouldn't call it a ‘New Year's Resolution', but I have resolved to get more exercise and shed a few pounds that have crept on over the past year. In the morning, instead of getting up and wasting time on the computer, I am putting on my shoes and coat, grabbing Flora and walking several brisk miles.

I have found some interesting podcasts to listen to and will be sharing those soon; but if you have some favorite podcasts, I am all ears.

Some of these links may be affiliate links and I may earn a small commission off of the sale of these products, but the price you are charged is not affected. You can see my full disclosure policy here.

Have a wonderful Monday my friends and thanks again for spending a few minutes of your busy day with me today.

Tips to sell – curb appeal is huge – potted planters or just a reason to stop and walk through the door for more. Exercise is on my radar as well and just getting fit again so I can keep up with everything.
So you might like “The Upside” loved this movie it was so good.

Yup…need to make sure my curb has appeal! Unfortunately, this is not a pretty time of the year. But pots can surely help.

Wish you lived closer…we could exercise together. And actually, we had planned to see the upside, but it was sold out so we found the next movie close to the time we were there and it was ‘Serenity’…save your time and $$

The best tip I can give you for selling your home is to de-clutter, de-clutter, de-clutter and de-personalize. Use the Marie Kondo method to clean out closets, store things nicely in your linen closet and bathroom shelves, leave lots of “white space” in your home, and put away all personal photos, everything that’s stuck on kitchen fridge. Make it super easy for anyone to walk into your home and get the sense they could move right in and enjoy a clean, serene space.
And leaving a plate of fresh baked cookies on a white plate on the counter, along with a pitcher of ice water with lemons slices and some plastic cups when an open house or showing is scheduled doesn’t hurt either :~).

Adele…I’ve been doing the declutter thing, but know I have alot more to do…especially leaving the ‘white space’. I have taken some pictures down, but know I could do alot more in our closets. Going to start on that this week. And LOVE the idea of the cookies on the counter!

Thanks so much for all your great suggestions…you are motivating me!

Lynn, when we moved from NV to OR we first rented a UHAUL and took out every picture of the family, any personal items, half to 2/3 of our clothes, half the linens, boxes of toiletries, shoes, boots, hats, coats, etc. It all went into bags and boxes and made the first trip to OR. The house looked great! Meantime, we painted the teal bedroom (son) and the lavender bedroom (daughter) and repaired all the picture holes, smudged walls, pulled out the refrigerator, washer, dryer to clean under and behind. The house looked even better. There was no clutter, shelves were half empty and items were stacked on shelves perfectly. We had lots of interest in the house as the real estate company we used took professional pictures and put them online. Those pictures don’t show the weird stretched out rooms but rather the rooms look normal. Things moved along well after that and the second family who made an offer took the house. The second move entailed renting another UHAUL and loading everything except just what we could take in our two cars. We then had several weeks left to my husband’s work commitment so we had a nice time staying with first our son, then our daughter. Smiled seeing NV in the rearview mirror.
Cookies are really good too. I sold a house that way back in the day but don’t stick around and follow the people. They will have a real estate agent so you can give him/her your number and slip out with pet in hand. That gets all the pressure off the buyers and they can imagine themselves in your house. I used to go watch chameleons at the pet store with our little dog. Very relaxing for me but not so much for her since her Veterinarian is in that store!
I may have missed why you are selling. Downsizing with kids on the way out or tired of hurricanes?

      Hi Penny,

Great Ideas…did you find that you didn’t miss all the stuff you left behind?

Had 2 showings yesterday and took the furry girls to an outdoor restaurant!

We are just downsizing…staying in the area…hurricanes be damned!

Have a great day my friend.

      Hugs, Lynn
