Monday Musings, October 12

Good Monday Morning, my friends.

And Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends! I hope you enjoy your day.

As I write this, we are on the road home from Philadelphia on a dark and rainy Monday morning. Despite the weather as we left the city, this trip nourished our heart and taste buds and gave us a much needed respite from our seemingly neverending staycation.

Make no mistake, Philadelphia takes Covid very seriously; mask wearing and social distancing were ubiquitous. By planning ahead, we were still able to do everything we wanted to do and fully enjoy our brief vacation.

We were able to visit Philly’s Magic Garden on Saturday, the picture at the top of the page was taken there. The Magic Garden is “an immersive mixed media art environment that is completely covered with mosaics. The creator, Isaiah Zagar, used handmade tiles, bottles, bicycle wheels, mirror, and international folk art to chronicle his life and influences.”

But, what we really enjoyed was just being able to spend some quality time with our daughter, who is in school in the city.

Before we left last week, I made these Date Nut Bars for my mom, who stayed at our home to take care of Peep and Flora.

Will you be doing any shopping on Amazon Prime Day tomorrow and Wednesday? While I love to shop local, I’m just not sure how practical it will be this year. Plus, as I wrote a couple of weeks ago, we need to plan on our packages taking up to 4 weeks to arrive this year. I am going to check out some of the deals to see what I can nab to get started on my shopping. If you aren’t a Prime member, you can take advantage of all the Prime deals with a free, 30-day trial membership.

Another review on this Rosemary, Fig & Nut Bread that brought an immediate smile to my face…

I just made this because I woke up craving something savory and figgy. I literally got chills when I took the first bite (straight from the oven). But, then I let it cool and sprinkled it with goat cheese and a bit of honey….. my life will never be the same! So good, and comforting!!! Thank you!

I’m in the market for a Fall wreath for our front door. I’m still looking, but I like the assymetrical-ness of this one.

I am going to find some Turkey Wings (or legs or thighs) and make this Turkey Stock this week. This stock is so delicious and is the perfect base for our Thanksgiving Turkey Gravy, as well as this low-fat and soul-warming Creamy Turkey Soup (you’ll be surprised at what makes it creamy!)

Speaking of Thanksgiving, if you are a planner then you will want to nab this printable 2020 Thanksgiving planner. It will undoubtedly help you have a much more relaxed and stress-free Thanksgiving day.

And, if you are beginning to transition to thinking of Christmas, you might want to start knitting some Christmas stockings. We have 2 knit stocking patterns that might interest you; the basic chunky knit stocking which uses the stocking stitch and the broken-rib stitch knit Christmas stocking which features a faux fur cuff. Truly, these are very quick knits. With basic knit skills, you can start and finish one in a day. I have produced videos that accompany the pattern to help you with your Knit Christmas Stocking success!

Well my friends, enjoy your day!

Many Hugs,

Signature of Lynn
