Oh Cheryl,

You just brought tears to my eyes.

Our vet of 20 years told me that when the first Golden’s DNA was formed, not only did it include their glorious fur, their obvious intelligence and their incredible disposition, but wrapped up in all that wonderfulness is a propensity for certain types of cancer. She paused and said, ‘And knowing that, I will ALWAYS have a Golden Retriever in my family.’ We feel the same. My husband and I bought our first Golden 37 years ago…she was was our First Anniversary gift to each other. Flora is just our third…so, I guess we’ve been lucky.

Thanks for your guidance. I’ve been watching her eyes closely…I knew something was up last week, but she is clearly feeling better this week as a result of the Prednisone. We go back to the vet this week and I told her I need to know how things will progress so that we can keep her as comfortable as possible. She is truly a gem, but I know you know that.

Our four legged fur babies are completely members of our families. And I’ve come to accept that this grief comes only from loving so hard; so I guess I don’t want the alternative.

It surely is the hardest part of owning a pet…I have decided that this sadness only comes from loving, so I guess I don’t really want the alternative. It’s the price we pay for loving hard.

And thank-you re. Verity! I could’ve kept on going on how dumb it was, but thought I had probably made my point. It does make you wonder…’who is reading these books that think they are good?’ I haven’t read other Colleen Hoover books, and not sure I am going if they are anything like that. I’m so glad I am not along, though we are clearly outnumbered!

I’ve moved my office to the kitchen table. She’s more comfortable on the hardwood downstairs, where it is cooler and she doesn’t have to climb the stairs. So we will be glued to the hip for as long as we have her! 💗 My husband, who is as attached to her as I am, has always been a stickler for not feeding her from the table or the kitchen counter. He’s changed his tune this week! He thinks she should have whatever she wants, whenever she wants it, wherever she wants it. She will surely know she is loved.💗

So, you know exactly what we are going through. But 16! Wow, I’ve never known a Golden to reach 16. Lucky you! We are soaking her up and keeping her happy and comfortable. 💗
