Monday Musings, July 8

Oh my heavens!

Have I ever missed you lovelies!

It has been radio silence on this end for almost 2 months and I am chomping at the bit to reconnect with you all.

And what was the reason for going dark?

Well,  in a nutshell:

  • We sold our home of 15 years
  • Bought and moved into my parents home, about half the size of our old home
  • As a result of the aforementioned ‘half the size’ thing, we are still in the midst of a significant downsize.
  • Mom and dad left a lot of furniture and memories behind, so we’ve been going through that as well.
  • We graduated one from college!
  • Threw a wee party to celebrate the graduation
  • Flew across the country to Iowa for a doctor’s appointment. (To all my Iowa City peeps…what a lovely town you have! Such a well kept secret!)
  • Attended an out of town bridal shower
  • Attended a lovely wedding
  • Swam with sharks

I think that’s about it. When I put it on paper it doesn’t seem like so much, but man, have we been busy! Downsizing is not for the faint of heart! We’ve been in the house for a month now and still can’t get a car into the garage…but I feel like it’s gonna happen soon! (Send good vibes!)

Enough about me! What have you been up to?

Several of you reached out over the past 2 months to ask if everything was OK! I cannot tell you how great that made me feel. We can complain about the lack of real human contact that technology might cause, but at the same time, we are making connections with folks that we might not have the opportunity to meet where we live! That can’t be a bad thing.

I made these Carne Asada tacos the other night and they were a HUGE hit! Definitely keeping this recipe.

Also made this Street Corn salad to accompany the tacos…double delish.

What do you keep your thermostat set to over the summer? I’m good with the 78° during the day, but at night I really sleep better if it’s a good bit cooler.

Are you surprised to know that there is a begonia that is a perennial? Me too!

Take advantage of the abundance of tomatoes and make this smoky tomato jam! One of my all-time favorite preserves.

    1. Hi Lori,

You are so kind! It’s very nice to be missed…truly makes my day.

I’m anxious to dive back into the blog…but man, what used to be rote is now taking me forever to do! I’ll get there though.

Have a great day my friend.

      Hugs,

      Lynn

  2. Thanks for the mention Lynn. Sounds like you have been super busy. We are starting to talk about downsizing too. Not consensus when or where that will happen. Just another part of life, right.

    1. So true…glad we have that behind us (well…kinda behind us…still have more work to do!)

Have a great week my friend.

      Hugs,

      Lynn

  3. Congratulations, Lynn, on making a big change! I did a major downsize last year and moved from Oregon to Colorado. I am moving this weekend into my ‘dream’ townhome, so I really understand the trials and tribulations you have been going through! I have so many boxes that I haven’t opened in over a year. I am thinking it may be like Christmas with each one I open! I truly don’t remember what I packed to bring with me — it will be a great adventure for awhile!

What I have learned this past year is how important to take time for yourself especially when making major decisions. Of course, I say this hoping I can “hold it together” and be ready for the movers on Saturday! I really think it is more difficult to move nearby compared to long distance. I’ll check in and let you know how much TLC I was able to give myself the rest of this week — I am skeptical that I can take my own advice!
Relax and continue to enjoy the small moments around you and your new home and thank you for sharing your life events with us!

    1. Hi Christie! I am thrilled for you…clearly, it’s been a process for you and now you are realizing your goal with your ‘dream’ townhouse! After these 2 moves, I do hope you will be able to settle in and stay a while! And what fun opening all those boxes! Do enjoy it.

And I’d love to hear how you’ve done taking care of yourself…that is not my strong point…I seem to want to have everything done asap, at the expense of my health and well being. Would love your tips!

Good luck my friend, I’ll be thinking of you on Saturday!

      Hugs,

      Lynn
