Monday Musings, November 26
Happy Monday my friends. I hope that you are coming off of a delightful weekend or a long weekend here in the U.S.
Phew…talk about a whirlwind couple of days!
We packed a whole bunch into our 4 days of Thanksgiving break. It was so lovely to have my babies back home for a few days. We are blessed that my parents live in town and are able to share in the festivities. We enjoyed some great food, good conversation even ended our Thanksgiving day with an impromptu ‘Despacito’ dance party.
We bought our tree on Wednesday and put it up on and got it decorated on Friday. The boys schlepped the seemingly neverending boxes out of the attic, we emptied them in the kitchen and then they were schlepped back up the attic.
We decorated and baked and ate and listened to Christmas music.
Well, we did manage to fit a little football in on Saturday too. We lit the fire and enjoyed the instant cozy that a fire offers once lit.
The last baby went back to school yesterday, so it’s just us and the four-legged loves for a couple of weeks until they come back home for Christmas break.

I am always looking for ‘overnight’ breakfast recipes. Here’s another one to add to my list.
Four simple ingredients, one Fabulous Appetizer!
A little tip to upgrade decorative pillows.
I absolutely adore those Shiny Brite Vintage Ornaments and have slowly been acquiring them. Someday, when I have a whole bunch, I’m going to make this wreath. It is GORGEOUS!!!
Tibetan Proverb: The secret to living well and longer is: eat half, walk double, laugh triple and love without measure.
This Caramel Apple Cake sounds delightful!
These little treats were a huge hit last year and will get made again this year.
How do you feel about ‘icebreakers’ at parties? Make sure you read through the comments to get even more ideas.
Always good to be reminded of all the uses for vinegar. Actually did use a vinegar wash in my Flora’s ears recently and worked like a charm.
A simple shift in mindset makes all the difference.
Cyber Monday Deals
- Holy Cow…if you are or have an Espresso Lover on your list. Check this out…60% off at Macy’s.
- Attachments for Kitchenaid Stand Mixer on Sale, plus an extra 10% off with code CYBER
- Dyson V6 Cord-Free Vacuum, 50% off. This is one of my all-time favorite household appliances.

Last but not least, I can’t claim this idea as ‘mine’, but whoever invented it was brilliant. If your hubby is anything like mine, you will have a spare length of PVC in the garage. Put one end in the reservoir of your Christmas Tree stand and put a funnel on the other end. Instead of crawling under your tree to water, simply pour the water into the funnel. I keep a finger in the reservoir to make sure I don’t overflow. This little gadget makes watering your Christmas tree SO MUCH EASIER! (excuse the picture, just snapped it with my phone)
Thanks again for spending a few minutes of your busy day with me today.

Lynn, It is high time I tell you how much I enjoy your website. I look so forward to reading your Monday musings. It is such a nice collection of ideas, recipes, etc. I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. Mine certainly was. We made your Cranberry Conserve and everyone loved it. I am making it for Christmas presents as well, using the jars you suggested. We seem to have the same tastes in food, DIY (centerpiece made from fruit), movies, books (Eleanor Oliphant). I feel like you’re my kindred spirit. Don’t worry, I’m not a weirdo, just a little weird. I live in New Mexico with my husband and crazy Irish Setter Kaibab and our son is graduating from Virginia Tech in May. Just wanted to let you know that I am a big fan of your and your blog!
Lori…if you are a little weird, then you are my kind of person!
And wow…we sure do have a lot in common!
So glad you loved that cranberry conserve and it will make a great gift this Christmas!
My daughter graduates from UNC this Spring as well…so we have kids the same age and I have a much loved Golden Retriever , Flora, (in addition to an equally beloved cat…Peep)
I really did enjoy Eleanor Oliphant…what are you reading now? I picked up an oldie but goodie because I couldn’t think of anything else…A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving.
And you just flat out made my day! Thanks so much for taking the time to write in…it truly means the world to me (well, as long as you are saying nice things!!)
I hope you have a wonderful day out west today. We are getting ready for a big thunderstorm…which I just do love! I’m hunkered down indoors and enjoying the storm.
Thanks again my new friend.
Hugs, Lynn
Sounds like a lovely Thanksgiving!! Where oh where did you get the (flying)Santa??!!! Crossing my fingers he is still available for sale somewhere!!!
Oh Leslie, my mom gave me that Santa years ago and I love him! I have tried to find him for sale, but haven’t had much luck. The bottom of the stand is marked ‘Captured Carvings by Anthony Costanza for Bethany Lowe’. Good Luck searching…maybe he will pop up on ebay at sometime. I call him ‘Flying Santa’ as well, but not sure what his official name is.
Have a great day my friend.
Hugs, Lynn
Sounds like a fun but busy weekend. Well doe. I live in Australia so we don’t have Thanksgiving but I do have an email friend in San Francisco who relates all the wonderful food she prepares. Please excuse any typing mistakes as I have Macula. Regards, Meg.
Good Morning my friend,
It was busy and it was fun!
And how nice to share different traditions via email! I find it one of the added benefits of blogging as well.
And I think your typing is spot on!
Have a great week my friend,
Hugs, Lynn
