News from the nest, August 19

Happy Monday! It’s a great day to have a great day!

August has always been a weird month for me. It signals the beginning of the end of summer when I start yearning for fall. My garden usually starts to look tired from the relentless sun and heat. I’m hesitant to put anything new in the ground and try to maintain what I have the best I can. Here in southeastern North Carolina, it is too early to start our fall veggies, so August is just a bit of a holding pattern in the garden.

We are taking a road trip later this week to Cleveland and back with both pup girls in the car! We will see our daughter and catch up with two of Terry’s childhood friends.

Elsa…is a HOT MESS! Thankfully, she still shows no sign of further seizures and has no ill effects of the seizure meds, other than we think they jack her up a bit. Yay…

These pictures fairly summarize Life with Elsa. The first one shows water drinking skills, and the second one, taken this morning as I was sitting here writing this newsletter, catches her after she proudly marched into the den with her latest piece of contraband! I need to start a support group for women over 60 who are crazy enough to adopt a new, large, rambunctious pup.

  1. Hi, I am one of those “what was I thinking” puppy moms way past 60! Wow, the first year has been a very busy one with potty training, behaviors, learning her inside and out and her learning our tones and ways. Overall, I couldn’t do without her now. She’s such a sweet personality and cuddle bug! So hang on, we can encourage one another when the going gets tough and it does from time to time!
Thank you for your blog. I so look forward to it.

    1. Hi Sheryl,

Thanks so much for your encouragement! Right now, we are traveling with Elsa and our daughter’s 3 year old Golden, so it’s been…busy! I keep reminding myself that she is only 6 months old and it will get better…but man…is she ALOT!

  2. Hi Lynn!
I tried your BBQ beef recipe and loved it! Since I did a whole roast for just my husband and me, I had leftovers. In our house mid August (when school starts here in southwestern Pennsylvania) to mid May we have Soup Mondays. I used the leftover roast, added some potatoes, carrots, and tomatoes from my garden, then some chopped onion, half a yellow pepper and a can of green beans and a can of kidney beans and put it all in my crock pot. It turned out wonderful! I added some crusty bread and we had a hearty meal! Thanks for the recipe!

    1. Hi Cindy, I’m just thrilled that you enjoyed it as much as we did! And there are not many things better than a good hearty soup made from leftovers! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on the recipe! It is much appreciated.
