National Strawberry Day: Shortbread Cookies with Jam & Nutella
Sharing an easy idea for decorating shortbread cookies with jam and Nutella.
Let me start by saying, ‘Shortbread, you are enough.’
I don’t want to take the chance of giving shortbread even a hint that it is not enough, just on its own. As if that was even a possibility. I’m sure we can all agree that the perfect combination of pure butter, sugar, salt, and flour guarantee that shortbread is delicious on its own.
But every once in a while, it’s fun to dress up, especially in honor of National Strawberry Day today! I’m celebrating by sharing the latest way in which I enjoy my favorite shortbread.
If you want to step out of the traditional shortbread box, then this is an easy idea. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a ‘recipe’, more like a little dress-up idea. I used Walkers Pure Butter Assorted Shortbread because, well, it’s Walkers Shortbread…their buttery shortbread was the perfect canvas for the Nutella and Strawberry Jam.
Simply by putting a little warmed-up Nutella and a little strawberry jam in squeeze bottles, you too can ‘dress’ up your shortbread in delightful fashion. If your strawberry has fruity chunks in it, you might want to just puree it quickly…those strawberry bits can clog the tip of your squeeze bottle.
And, seriously, just the whole act of squeezing jam and Nutella on anything will up the fun factor. But you don’t even really need squeeze bottles, I just happen to have them as I use them often. You could just as easily dip your fork into warmed up Nutella and Jam and drizzle it over your Shortbread that way.
And while we enjoyed the shortbread cookies with jam and Nutella combination, the possibilities are endless! You could warm up a little creamy peanut butter in place of the Nutella. Or if white chocolate is your thing, then by all means, go that route.
In any event beyond National Strawberry Day, these ‘dressed up’ shortbread cookies with jam are a fun change to an afternoon snack…perfect with a glass of milk or cup of tea.
What would you decorate your shortbread with?

These look so yummy Lynn! And so creative. I never would have thought to do this with shortbread! Very impressive!!
Oh, now you are selling yourself short! You are endlessly creative! But that being said…enjoy this simple treat.
Oh yum! What a simple and clever combo, Lynn. I’m adding Nutella and walkers shortbread to my shopping list. 🙂
Enjoy it girlfriend! Such a simple little treat…your kids will love it.
Strawberries and Walkers shortbread are two of my favorite things but I never thought of pairing them together. Such a simple but wonderful idea. You’re so clever!
Aw, thanks Angie. Wish we lived closer so that we could have a Strawberry and Shortbread get together! Have a good day my friend.
I agree shortbread is enough, all by itself…..but why stop there when you can add chocolate and strawberries?! This is a really fun idea, thanks for sharing.
You are so right my friend! Chocolate and Strawberry just make a great treat even better.
I want to come over to eat these. Yum!
Come on!
What a great idea! I was thinking about making egg shaped shortbread cookies for Easter. This would be a simpler and tastier way of decorating them.
Absolutely BetteAnn! I’d love to see what you end up if you feel like sending a quick photo.
