News From The Nest, July 7

Good Morning from Newport, Rhode Island.

This was an unexpected trip as we are here to celebrate the life and support the family of a good friend of ours who passed away last week. I’ll not belabor the sad part; we all have been there. However, it’s always a good time to remind ourselves to regularly express our love to those we love, to let petty grievances go, to find joy in the simple things, and to celebrate the life we have.

When I saw this image in the Charlotte Airport yesterday, I pulled my phone out of my purse to snap it…I wanted to share it today. It’s a good reminder every day, but especially given the purpose of our travels.

New on the Blog

I’m so excited to share this new knit project! If you could have seen me at the airport yesterday, I probably looked like this.

  • Daniella has been working with us since the end of last year, but she really has outdone herself with this Knit Teddy Bear! I’ve provided the link so you can have the pattern emailed to your inbox, but give me through today for the pattern to actually arrive. I still have some work to do on this end to get it in a printable pattern form for you. Think how cute this sweet bear will be for a new baby gift or stuffed in a stocking this Christmas!

How about a little Christmas in July! It’s never too early to start knitting gifts. You know it’ll get busier as the year goes on.

Christmas Stockings
  • Designed with simple knit and purl stitches, this Christmas stocking pattern is a variation on the previous one. Knit using the broken rib stitch and finished with a faux fur cuff, it’s just a little more ‘extra’ than the chunky stocking.

  1. Lynn,
I enjoy all your posts. I tried your sourdough this winter a couple of times. When it came out of the oven it looked lovely and very professional. And it was delicious. But there was one big problem. It was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to slice! I’m talking…I was thinking of getting the chainsaw out after even my electric knife struggled to cut into the crust. What went wrong? I would like to try again. Thank you!

    1. Hi Anne,

Hmmmm…you had a lid on when you put it in the oven? If so, and it was still hard, either spray or brush some water on the top of the dough right before you put it in the oven.

It’s definitely a crusty loaf. I did buy a great and inexpensive bread knife that makes the job much easier. https://amzn.to/3Gq3DxF
