News From The Nest, June 2

Good Morning from somewhere in the Greek Isles!

What a glorious part of the world this is! We started our cruise in Venice. Our first stop was Koper, Slovenia, where we went into the lovely little town of Piran, which reminded me a bit of Venice and a bit like Honfleur, France.

From there, we journeyed to Croatia, visiting Zadar one day and Dubrovnik the next. The Dubrovnik Fortress is genuinely awe-inspiring. I was not familiar with the history of this area, specifically the influence of the Venetian Republic, which is clearly visible in much of the architecture.

From there, we journeyed to Kotor, Montenegro; another area influenced by the Venetians. In fact, much of the entire coastline of the Adriatic was at one time under the rule of the Venetians. We’ve also learned firsthand the impact that the formation and ultimate demise of Yugoslavia and the wars that resulted.

Yesterday, we meandered through the streets of Corfu. Today, we will spend the day in Olympia, the home of the first Olympics.

The weather has been glorious, the Adriatic Sea is a stunning blue color, and our two kiddos are in the room next door. Life is Good!

New on the Blog

I love this job of mine! I’m sitting on my deck as the sun rises, overlooking the Adriatic, listening to the sea birds, and ‘working.’ I use the term ‘working’ lightly; this is the best job around!
