Knit Heart Potholder Pattern

If you’re looking for a practical yet ‘heartfelt’ 💟 knitting project, this Knit Heart Potholder Pattern is a perfect choice.

Worked entirely in knit and purl stitches, this pattern is easy enough for beginners while still engaging for seasoned knitters. The design combines two colors and uses a simple stockinette center bordered by a garter stitch, with a lovely heart motif in the middle.

With just 3-4 hours of knitting, you’ll have a beautiful, functional potholder that’s as charming as practical.

What Kind of Yarn Fiber is Best for Potholders?

While you can use wool or heat-resistant synthetic yarn, I recommend 100% cotton yarn for any potholder. Here’s why:

  • It won’t melt, which is rather significant when handling hot things!
  • It is washable! For the same reason that cotton is great for knit and crochet washcloths, it is also great for potholders. Cotton is a fiber that withstands multiple washings without felting, like wool.
  • Cotton, given its inelasticity, will hold its shape when wet.
