Happiest of Happy Days my Friends…
We returned last night from a whirlwind college move-in for my youngest. And while he is not a loud and boisterous young man, the house is definitely quieter this morning. Just knowing that there is one less person at home really has a way of quieting the home. And while we will miss him (I missed him this morning when I had a problem with my android ?), we know he is doing what he loves doing and is flourishing in college.

Before he left, I used up some (rather wrinkly and soft) apples to make these Apple Crumble Bars which he declared ‘delicious’ (well, honestly, he didn’t say the words ‘delicious’ but he sat down and ate all of the bars within 24 hours, so I think he would’ve said ‘delicious’ if his mouth hadn’t been full!)…all the yumminess of an apple pie without the pie crust hassle and just what we need to start channeling all things ‘fall’.
And before those golden plums leave the Farmer’s Market, you will want to make put away a couple of jars of this Spiced Golden Plum Jam.
I know it’s August, but my mind has already started thinking about Christmas. More specifically, I need to start thinking about what gifts I am going to be making this year. These stockings are actually a quick knit; you could knit quite a few if you start soon.
Sometimes we don’t have the luxury of dedicating a day, a week or a month to the task of maintaining our homes. This list of 49 Quick Household Tasks That Take 15 Minutes or Less will help you stay on top of the stuff that needs staying on top off!
In the ‘Where Have You Been All My Life?’ category…these toaster oven liners will no doubt preserve the relationship between my son and I. (While I loved having him home, the young man is a messy cook. I can’t even begin to tell you how many the crumb tray of our SmartOven needed to be soaked and scrubbed.)
My friend Patty has some great suggestions about preserving herbs.
Last week I mentioned that my dad has Alzheimer’s and that this dreadful disease is breaking our collective hearts and forcing us to make some difficult decisions. Shortly thereafter, I received an email from Julie Fleming, the founder of Purple Sherpa, an organization dedicated to supporting the caregivers of loved ones with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. If you or someone you know is providing care for someone with these diseases, then please go check out her site and facebook page. It’s clearly a community of caring people just trying to help each other get through a challenging and emotional process.
Have a wonderful week my friends…
Hugs,
