Christmas Stockings hanging by the mantel are ubiquitous with Christmas. This is my first Christmas stocking pattern and the written and step-by-step video instructions are such that even a newish knitter can be successful. And since they use a super bulky yarn, these stockings knit up so very quickly!
My second Knitted Christmas Stocking pattern is a variation from the original. The body gets a little more interest with a broken rib stitch, and the top goes a little glam with a knit faux fur cuff. Like the original stocking, this is a ‘roomy’ stocking with a lot of room to stretch and expand, making the recipient giddy come Christmas morning.
These funny little knit gnomes are a great sock yarn stash buster and adorable Christmas decorations to boot! Gauge is not really important…use what you have your gnome will be sized accordingly. Imagine a whole family of these sure-to-put-a-smile-on-your-face knit critters. You can knit patterns in their hats or embroider a design afterward.
The idea for this Christmas Tree Pillow Pattern came to me recently on one of my recent road trips. I made my husband swing by a yarn store so that I could ‘create’ it in the car. I’m thrilled with how it turned out. It’s an easy knit, using just knits and purl to create the white-on-white Christmas tree pattern. I don’t know if the pom-poms or the embroidered glitter stars give this lovely pillow that little oomph…maybe both!
I know I had to wrest it away from my mom when she saw it. I’ve promised to knit her one of her very own!
My friend Sherry has a way with needles…doesn’t she? This not-so-little Chunky Snowman looks like a fun knit and can be made even more personal with special colors and trim on his hat and scarf. Sherry also shows you how to make your snow fellow stand up straight when he wants to slouch!
Imagine a tree filled with these sweet Fair Isle Christmas Tree Ornaments! Or what about knitting one certain ornament for all your family each year so that everyone has the same ornaments you made as the years go by? As my children grow and start their own trees, I see them doing that each year. This easy Christmas ornament knitting pattern is also a great way to perfect your Fair Isle knitting skills before tackling a larger sweater!
This sweet knit Christmas Tree garland is another one of Sherry’s projects. She attached the knitted Christmas trees to a pom pom garland she already had, which reminds me of snowballs! In her words, ‘this is so easy!’
These Tiny Knit Sweaters knit up quickly and make adorable Christmas tree ornaments. They are equally cute on a garland, a wreath, as a gift topper, or as a place setting. Use some of your yarn stash for these knit Christmas ornaments. These mini-knit sweaters use worsted weight yarn, but are adaptable to what you have.
These nearly 1-foot-tall Gingerbread Men will make adorable pillows! They are knit in the round, so there is no need for seaming. And imagine the fun you will have giving them their own special personalities with rick rack, buttons, and embroidery.
I can imagine a row of them on my sofa!
Of course, how could we have a list of Christmas knitting patterns without the Elf on the Shelf? This knit version is adorable. And you could easily knit a little skirt and add a wee bit of hair for a girl elf!
On the opposite end of the spectrum from my Chunky Knit Stockings are these sweet, mini Fair Isle Stockings. I can see tucking gift cards and sweets in them, hanging them from a Christmas tree, using them as present toppers, making them into an Advent calendar, or stringing them from a garland! There are so many uses for these adorable wee stockings.
And you could even make them a wee bit larger by using a different yarn.
And of course, we must have a knit Santa hat on our Free Christmas Knitting Patterns list! This adorable hat comes complete with a big, puffy pom-pom! I love everything about this Santa hat knitting pattern, especially because it knits up quickly with a super bulky yarn! Tara shares how to knit the hat for all sorts of sizes, from baby to adult!
