News From The Nest, September 29

Good, rainy, Monday Morning from Southeastern North Carolina. As recently as Friday, we were looking at a potential Tropical Storm or Hurricane descending on us today and tomorrow, so I’m happy with just a steady and much-needed rain.

We’ve had a delightful weekend with college friends watching football, though our team didn’t quite live up to our hopes. RATS! And yet, the world still spins. We ate sooooo much, but it was sooooo good. My girlfriend and I made sourdough discard pasta that was sublime with the meaty sugo sauce I prepared. Are you drooling yet?

We spent the rainy Sunday at Brunch with my mom and another friend, and then we took ourselves to a matinee, One Battle After Another, which we all loved. It’s a long movie, but it didn’t feel long. It’s definitely a black comedy, with Pulp Fiction feels, though not as much gore. In a nutshell, an aged revolutionary, a single dad of a headstrong daughter, living off the grid, discovers his nemesis is back to find and ‘dispose’ of them. Every actor/actress was so well cast, I can see a few Oscar nominees. It’s definitely an in-your-face satire, but well written, with a fantastic musical score and really neat cinematography (the road scene at the end *chef’s kiss*).

Whatcha Reading or Listening to?

Well, it’s the end of the month, which means it’s time to update my book reviews. I’m still behind my goal, but I’m working hard at catching up!

For the past several years, I’ve joined the Goodreads Reading Challenge. If you need some book titles to add to your reading queue this year, check out my quick and dirty reviews here.

I mentioned that I’ve thoroughly benefited from every penny of my Audible subscription. Last year, I listened to all of Charles Dickens’ books while I went about my daily chores and projects.

If you like to listen while you work, here’s also a list of podcasts I’ve enjoyed.

We are eager to take Elsa to the Internal Medicine Veterinary Specialist this week! Other than that, I’ll be toiling away behind the scenes to polish up a few more great articles for your enjoyment.
