Tuesday Musings ?, November 26
The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
That quote attributed to Robert Burns fully summed up my day yesterday.
You know those days when you wake up with a plan and it just seems that the universe didn’t quite get the message that you had plans made?
I had spent time on Sunday writing out all that I was going to accomplish on Monday. It was a good to-do list and was going to put me in a great position for the rest of the week.
But, instead, I was at the vet with Flora, the Pretty Princess pup, at 7:30 a.m. for a work-in appointment… She just wasn’t ‘right’ when we woke in the morning…I was actually thinking she may have had a wee stroke. She wouldn’t walk and was hanging her head in an odd way…but, the good news is that 24 hours later, she seems fine. Phew!
After those 3 hours at the vet, I figured I still had the rest of the day to get done what needed to get done. But nothing seemed to go as planned yesterday. Nothing major…little errands I hadn’t planned on running needed to be run (now!) and just little unexpected twists and turns such that at the end of the day felt like I hadn’t accomplished anything!
We had our hot water heater flushed yesterday. I was gone all day and when I got home later in the day I realized we have virtually no water pressure in our bathroom. Left a message for the plumber
And to cap it off, my plan was to get my turkey in the brine yesterday. Everything I have read recommends that a turkey brine for a good 36-48 hours in order to fully benefit from the brining. Since we are having our Thanksgiving meal a day early on Wednesday, I really wanted that turkey to get in the brine yesterday. I purchased a package of 2 brining bags and guess what, they both tore! What? Thank heavens I still had them in a pot, but after that, I was like, ‘OK, it’s wine time!‘
All that to say…I have lots of plans for today!! My kiddos come home this evening so I want to have as much prepped for our Thanksgiving meal tomorrow as possible and lay the groundwork for our Christmas decorating which will probably commence Thursday afternoon or Friday.
Luckily I’ve been leaning heavily on my Holiday Checklist, so I have been prepping along the way:
- The turkey stock for our gravy is made
- The turkey is brining! (no thanks to you Reynolds!)
- Pie crusts are made. This reliable recipe has been my go-to for years.
- Groceries for this week are purchased
So today I we will peel potatoes and soak them in water overnight, make something for breakfast tomorrow, make my son’s favorite cookies, set the table, clean the house, make mulled cider and buy the Christmas tree.
One of my favorite Thanksgiving Tips to share…Use a small teapot for your gravy! Keeps it warm and is much less messy!
For as long as I can remember, we have put out a Charcuterie Board or Meat and Cheese Board for all-day nibbling when we put up the Christmas tree. I have all the ingredients we need to make this Holiday Charcuterie Board on Friday.

This little wreath was so easy to make, but I love how it turned out. Right now it is on my daughter’s bedroom door, but who knows where it will end up after we get done decorating this weekend.

Well, I’d love to sit around and chat all day, but I need to check on my plumber and get busy!
But in closing, I do want all of you to know when I think of all I have to be thankful for, my readers are way up there! I am thankful that I have a job that I love! I enjoy working on this blog so much and knowing that I have you out there on the other end of my musings makes it all the more enjoyable. So thank you!
